AUBURN- Gerard M. “Jerry” Avoglia, 63, of 25 Lorna Drive, Auburn died Saturday, November 1, 2003 in Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Judith M. (McMahon) Avoglia; a son, Jeffrey A. Avoglia of Charlton and a daughter, Jennifer L. Avoglia of Dayville, CT; two sisters, Rosalie D’Alessandro of Jersey City, N.J. Eva Prevete of Woodbridge, N.J.; also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Thomsen of Northfield, N.J.; and several dear friends all over the country. He was predeceased by a brother, Louis Avoglia and two sisters, Mildred Thomsen and Rebecca Avoglia all of New Jersey.
Mr. Avoglia was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, son of the late Anthony and Rose (DeMaio) Avoglia and had lived in New Jersey before moving to Auburn 34 years ago. He graduated from Emerson High School in Jersey City, N.J. Mr. Avoglia was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Avoglia had been employed as the Director of Operation for Forte Enterprises, L.L.C. in Worcester for several years. Previously he had worked as a Display Director and Project Manager for the Melville Corp/Thom Mc Ann in both Worcester and New York.
Mr. Avoglia was a member of Saint Joseph’s Church. He was also a devoted New York Yankee’s Fan that loved anything to do with the Yankee’s and its ball club.
Mr. Avoglia’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 from the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn with a funeral Mass at 9:30 A.M. in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn, Ma. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 from 5-8 P.M. in the funeral home.
