Not sure what to say?

Gerry Fitzpatrick was first introduced to me by Dudley Dowling at my family home in Stafford in early 1971. Gerry had come over with Dudley to have a chat with my Dad, then Valley's Treasurer, about having a gallop with the Diehards. History reflects the outcome of that discussion. Corbett Park was not far away either.
I clearly recall a tall, lanky young man with long hair and beard, somewhat biblical in appearance. He had an impish smile and a twinkle in his eye. I got to know him at...

People should know that Fitzy gave me the invitation and encouragement to play in his Touch Football team.
I was down there to watch a mate play late on a balmy summers night in 1990.
He said "Can you come and hold on the wing?"
We are short.
Yes. And I knew nothing about Touch or Rugby League.
I had just arrived here (in QLD) from Victoria.
I was 40 odd. As was he.
After the game he asked me if I could come and play next week.
Of course. I was impressed by his offer....

RIP Ged. Your kindness, humour, consideration for others, humility and mentoring will be remembered always. You left the world a better place.

Very saddened by the news of the passing of Gerry, he really was one of nature's true gentlemen. There are no words to adequately express my deepest sympathy to his family, my heart goes out to you all at this sad time.

God Bless you Gerry and all the Fitzpatrick and Boyle families. You are all a cherished childhood memory of Fingal Street days. Diehards never died, they just find another club and season to play somewhere. Play hard, play fair and play well - you always did.

Gerry Fitzpatrick was one of the finest teachers I had the privilege to be associated with on my staff. A devoted teacher always thinking of the welfare of his students and the support of his school

a true DIEHARD you will be missed by all who followed B.R.L. A FINE FOOTBALLER, A TRUE GENT AND PASSIONATE FOR ALL THINGS VALLEYS
