We've lost a good one. I always enjoyed reading his pieces at American Digest. One of the earlier bloggers who soon became a favorite to many. My sympathy to his loved ones, and to all of us who will miss his wit and style.

My husband, Robie Macauley, a former fiction editor of Playboy, was instrumental in bringing Gerard to Houghton Mifflin in Boston. Their logo was a boy riding a whale. Gerard changed the logo for one of his edited books and the boy was in the whale´s mouth, much to the company´s chagrin. Gerard was charming and full of stories.

I was and am a fan of Gerard's blog American Digest. I found it long before I knew about his connection to Paradise, where I and my family lived for many years. I will miss him.
