Not sure what to say?

I had 4 great years at the GI with Gerd as my advisor. He was a very generous and caring person who went out of his way to make sure I was well taken care of. I will never forget him.

My condolences. When I worked at the GI, Gerd and I always had great conversations, often about climate issues that are in the forefront of today's world. He and family were also kind to my nephew as well as to others, part of his generous nature. Missing him already.

A wonderful man who lived a wonderful life. He will be remembered by many.

Traurig nehme ich Abschied von meinem Freund Gerd. Gerd und ich haben uns vor einigen Jahrzehnten kennen gelernt, als ich allein vor einem großen Problem stand. Unvergessen ist die außerordentliche...

RIP Gerd....great husband, father, friend and scientist. You made your mark and will be missed...

My heart broke when I heard the news about Gerd. I will treasure all of the 5 years that I was able to work for him at the Alaska Climate Research Center. He was a brilliant, charming and endlessly kind man. His laugh was infectious. He taught me a great deal and it was always an adventure to work alongside him, especially when he would switch from English to German in the middle of a conversation. Rest well, friend. And thank you so much for all that you did for science and for me,...
