Gerline H. Gehr, 99, of Cabot, formerly of Beaver, died Thursday.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1913, in Bedford County, Pa., a daughter of the late Perry D. and Eliza B. Howsare Hite.
She had been a resident of Beaver from 1937 until August of 1996.
She retired in 1965, as an elementary school teacher from the Beaver School District with 18 years of service.
She was a member of the Hodge Band; a life member of the Beaver County Retired Teachers Association, PASR, NEA, PSEA, and was an associate member of the Beaver Garden Club and the Gertrude Barrett Service Group. She was a charter member of the Board of the Brodhead Cultural Center, a former member of the District 7 Board of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, and past president of the Garden Club of Beaver,
She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and had additional studies at Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., and Geneva College.
When Gerline Gehr arrived at Concordia Independent Living Haven II Apartments on Aug. 26, 1996, she made herself at home and delighted in making everyone she met part of her Concordia family. Generous beyond measure, she blessed Concordia with many gifts. She decorated chapels, dining rooms, gardens, walking trails and lobbies. Gerline always will be remembered through her endowment in the 1950s themed deli, "Gerline's Snack Shop" in the Lund Care Center and established in 1998.
Gerline was a very appreciative person who quietly sponsored hundreds of gifts each year at the employee Christmas party, as a former school teacher, she valued education and supported Concordia's scholarship fund, Gerline adopted the Concordia family of residents and employees and all of us mourn the loss of our one-of-a-kind friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Gehr.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Warren (Pam) Gottschalk of Coraopolis, Pa., and many nieces and nephews.
GEHR - There will be no public visitation for Gerline H. Gehr, who died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lund Care Chapel, Concordia Lutheran Home, Cabot. Entombment will be private in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, Beaver.
