Germaine 'Geri' Gengler, 84 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at All Saints Parish - St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Germaine Eve Sitzman was born on May 11, 1933 to Edward Sr. and Agnes (Carel) Sitzman in Neptune, Iowa. She attended country school until 8th grade and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Neptune. She then attended Mount Marty for high school for a short time. She decided to move back home and began babysitting her siblings, nieces, and nephews and housekeeping for neighbors. Geri was united in marriage to Gerald Gengler on February 3, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Neptune and they made their home in Le Mars. Geri stayed home with their three children: Joan, Judy, and Jean. After the children were grown, she worked for many years in the kitchen at the Le Mars Truck Stop. She then worked a few years at Lally's Eastside Restaurant in Le Mars. She retired in 1995 due to her health.
Geri enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, and canning. She was a member of All Saints Parish - St. James Catholic Church. Geri liked reading the newspaper, listening to music, playing cards and Bingo and group exercises at Plymouth Manor. She loved visiting with friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee. Geri's favorite time was spent with her children and grandchildren.
Germaine is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gerald Gengler; daughters: Judy (Terry) Reusch and Jean (Roger Nussbaum) Gengler; grandchildren: Ryan Reusch, Jennifer (Brooks) Ray, Chris Gengler, Doug, and Adam; great grandchildren: Ethan Reusch and Peyton, Gunner, and Remmington Ray; siblings: Stanley (Louise) Sitzman, Paul (Barbara) Sitzman, and Alyce Reuter; sisters in law: Jeannette (Gerald) Hohbach, Agnes Sitzman, and Rita Sitzman; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and her extended family, the wonderful staff at Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Germaine is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joan Gengler (April 2011); siblings: Edward Jr, Sitzman, Bill (Betty) Sitzman, Aflred (Rosie) Sitzman, Dale (Delphine) Sitzman, Howard Sitzman, Mary (Edward) Pnaik, Margie (Bob) Gilligan, Annette (Harold) Sieverding, and infant sister, Joyce.
