I was furtunate to grow up in the intellectually stimulating social environment which featured, among many of the Calvin College community, my parents' great friends, Getrude and Henry Beversluis. Over the years I have continued to enjoy my connection with the
Beversluis family, especially with Gertrude and Henry's daughter, my dear friend, Terry Glass; her husband, Ross; and their four wonderful children.

Our loss is Henry's gain. And Win and Tony will be able to enjoy Sunday evenings as they used to, coffee klatzing with Gert and Goose. I can still see Henry, sitting in Dad's favorite chair, Mom's blue-and-white stoneware cup and saucer and the small brass ashtray on the end table, Henry punctuating his opinings with the play of his cigarette––rather like a maestro directing his own thought. You have my sympathy in the death of Gertrude. My earliest memories of her are at your house in North Haledon, NJ, when my parents and I attended an EC faculty picnic there. My dad, Wilbur DeVries, taught music at the Eastern Christian Schools for 12 years.
