Not sure what to say?

Thinking of Miss Drey today, several years after her death. She was my homeroom and Latin teacher when I was a "sixie" at the then all girls school Girls' Latin School... She was a fabulous teacher .. so organized, smart, and kind.. I had the opportunity to call her and speak with her many years later to thank her... I think of her often and all the little acts of kindness she offered such a reviewing a week's worth of Latin with the entire class after I had been out sick for an entire week....

I do still and will always remember her.

This condolence to her family, I regret, is untimely. I was inspired by this natural educator, to become a teacher also. She was so effective at Hull High School in her Latin instruction, that I was able to have simple conversations in Latin with her. She was the only teacher who laughted at my teenage jokes. I regret that I lost the Esterbrook pen she gave me. I fondly remember her in that 1958 Ford, she almost gave me a ride in. May she rest in peace, never to be forgotten by yours truly.

I was a student of Miss Drey's at Boston Latin Academy in the late 1970's. She was an amazing teacher and she ran our class like a well oiled machine. She was a no nonsense woman who instilled respect (and a bit of fear I might add) in all of her students. We all thought that she had been a former marine. I LOVED her class and I thought she was so cool because she would speak Latin conversationally in the hallway. She was one of those teachers you never forget. May she rest in peace.

I was a student of Miss Drey's at Boston Latin Academy in the 1980's. I remember her class being very challenging and running very smoothly. Having become a teacher myself, I now recognize and appreciate the organization, dedication, and professionalism she demonstrated daily.

It is wonderful to read the guest book entries and to know that Miss Drey had loved ones and caregivers who were so dedicated to her.

I was one of Miss Drey's caregivers. In the time that I was with her she taught me patience and respect for the individual. She will be missed by myself and my puppy who loved going to visit.

I was one of the caregivers that cared for Gerrtrude in the last year of her life. She was a wonderful, kind and caring individual. She was always so lovely to be with and had so much wisdom to impart. I was not a student of hers but what she taught me i could have never learned in a classroom. I count myself as blessed to have had Gertrude Drey in my life!

I didn't know Gertrude but did know her brother, Thomas Drey, a Guidance Counselor at Malden High School who passed away several years ago. I'm sure that Gertrude, like her brother, Thomas, was a true professional and made a huge difference in the lives of so many students. May they both rest in peace!
Sincerely,

I had Miss Drey for 9th grade Latin
(Caesar and Baker and Ingalls) at Girls' Latin School. She was tough, fair and a very consistently excellent teacher. May she find happiness.
