Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. Obituary

Gertrude E. "Gert" Kuhs, 85, of Wind Gap, died August 21, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.

Born January 12, 1931, she was a daughter of the late James and Hattie (Balt) Morgan, Gert married Paul C. Kuhs, II, who preceded her in death in 1999.

In addition to raising a family, Gert served as a forewoman at Valerie Fashions in Wind Gap until her retirement. During this time, she advocated for the rights of workers as a member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Gert was unsentimental, except when it came to the Phillies, the Eagles, and the Little League World Series. She was extremely giving of herself and her time in service to family, friends, and neighbors. She found enjoyment in her independence, her bingo games, and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her life.

She is survived by a son, Paul C. Kuhs, III, and his wife Lori, of Wind Gap; a great-grandson, Dylan Graeff; a large and loving extended family; and her cherished friends. Her brothers and sisters died previously.

Services will be private. In celebration of her life, the family asks that you honor the memory of Gert's generous spirit with an act of kindness for someone in need.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, Bangor, PA. Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com.

Not sure what to say?

Paul and family We are sorry to hear of your mother's passing.

In loving memory of my grandmother who has been there for my sister Jen and I unconditionally all of our lives. She was very loving and caring towards us, her great -grandchildren Connor and Matthew, and our families. We all love and miss you Grams!

So sorry for your loss. We knew Gert from Friday night bingo and enjoyed talking to her each week. What a sweet lady. She certainly will be missed.

I worked with Gert at Valerie. When work would get slow, someone would say "I smell bacon", and we (Hazel, Iola, Grace, Gert & I)would leave work early and go to the diner for breakfast. Good times... I'm so sorry for your loss.
