Gertrude Elizabeth Strozeski, 96 years old of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2025. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born on January 27, 1929 to the late Paul and Rose (Leavine) Filipiak in Grindstone City. She was one of seven daughters.
Gertrude married Chester Strozeski on August 6, 1949 and they were married for 56 years before he passed away in April of 2006. Together they raised a family and farmed.
Gertrude was known as a very caring, sweet and loving person. She was always smiling and her faith was an important part of who she was as she daily prayed the Rosary, including many in her prayers. She worked for many years at Mayes Level Factory in Port Austin and was often praised for the quality of vials she produced. She worked hard for her family; gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed playing the organ.
Gertrude is survived by her children; Sylvester (Ellen) Strozeski of Oklahoma, Christine Osantowski of Gagetown, and Arlene (Doug) Depcinski of Bay City. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Jason Osantowski, Tammy Talaski, Travis (fiancé Avery) Depcinski of Alaska, Tricia Depcinski of Saginaw; great-grandchildren Hunter, Landon, and Brooklyn Talaski and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her sisters; Bernice (Alphons) Osentoski, Theresa (Frank) Bambach, Florence (Albert) Gusa, Rose Marie Aiuto, Sophie (Leo) Navock, Barbara (Bob) Uller and son in law Larry Osantowski.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Hubert Parish/ Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Yesu Mulakaleti officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at MacAlpine Funeral Home/ Mac Chapel in Bad Axe, from 2-8:00 p.m. and also 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. A Rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Mac Chapel.
