Gervais Louis Gaudreau, 87, of Beebe Plain, passed away Friday evening, February 4, 2005 at North Country Hospital in Newport.

He was born on April 19, 1917 in Nôtre-Dame du Rosaire, PQ, the eldest son of Eugène and Régina (Allaire) Gaudreau. On June 15, 1938 he married the former Germaine Lamontagne at Sainte-Thérèse de l’Enfant Jésus in Beebe, PQ. She predeceased him on April 25, 2001.

He leaves his six children, Pierrette Paradis of Windsor, Connecticut, Denise Bouffard and her husband Paul of Newport, Gabrielle Carr and her husband James of Derby, André Gaudreau of St. Albans, Lucille Gaudreau of Newport, and Suzanne Gaudreau of St. Albans, his seven grandchildren, Suzanne Paradis of Windsor, Connecticut, Mark Paradis of Windsor, Connecticut, Jane Bouffard of Stowe, Monica Libby and her husband Scott of Newport, Peter Bouffard and his wife Deborah of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tom Bouffard of Pittsburgh, California, and Julie Bouffard of Bowie, Maryland. He has five great-grandchildren who survive him including Amanda, Sara, Michaela, Laura, and Anna Grace Libby of Newport. He also leaves a sister, Marcelle Gosselin and her husband Paul of Newport, two brothers, René Gaudreau of Beebe, and Jean-Guy Gaudreau and his wife Denise of Beebe; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Gaudreau of Derby Line and Cécile Gaudreau of Beebe. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lucien and Robert, two infant siblings, Maxence and Raymond, and a little sister Odile, and son-in-law, André Paradis.

As a young may Gervais attended the Saint Charles Borroméo Seminary in Sherbrooke, PQ where he received a secondary education. His strong work ethic prevailed throughout his life. In his younger years, he worked as a stone cutter in Beebe and was employed at Butterfield’s Tap & Dye in Derby Line from which he retired in 1979. He enjoyed music and sang Gregorian chant in the choir at Sainte-Thérèse in Beebe, of which he was a member. He also enjoyed sports as was an enthusiastic baseball player and manager in the Sunset League of the 1940’s and early 1950’s. Following his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and worked on various home projects throughout the years. He was an avid reader, a pastime which occupied a good deal of his time in later years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Rev. Bernard Gaudreau officiating. Spring interment will take place at St. Mary’s cemetery.
