Gilbert Bourget, 81, of Somerset, MA, died Tuesday at Catholic Memorial Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Constance (Souza) Bourget.

Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Ernest and Alice (Maciel) Bourget, he grew up in the below the hill section of the city, living on Fountain and Ferry St., spending the past 53 years in Somerset.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II and received the American Area Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.

A machinist by trade, Mr. Bourget worked for many years at Duro Finishing and was a past president of its local textile union.

He enjoyed spending time with his entire family, enjoyed gardening and traveling.

He was a member of St. John of God Church in Somerset.

Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by a daughter, Shirley A. Gennari and her husband George of Riverside, RI; two brothers, Ernest Bourget and his wife Gilda of Pensacola, FL and Daniel Bourget of Haines City, FL; two grandchildren, Malaina Murphy and her husband Stephen and Matthew Gennari; two great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Elizabeth Murphy; a sister-in-law, Doris Bourget of Fall River; several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Norman Bourget.

His funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. John of God Church, Brayton Ave., Somerset. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
