Not sure what to say?

I´m heartbroken to learn of Dr. Gradinger´s recent passing. Yet, at the same time I am filled with joy that this extraordinary person was such a significant part of my life. Dr. G came into my life when I was 6 weeks old (1964). Between the ages of 18 months old and 18 years old, Dr. G. performed 14 of my 16 surgeries to make the birthmark over my right eye less noticeable. We noted that I was his youngest and longest patient. Even though his specialty was plastic surgery, his focus was...

I came into this world in 1966, with a cleft palate. Dr. Gradinger was there at Peninsula Hospital to help care for me. Through many surgeries and procedures to repair my mouth, Dr. Gradinger was there. He was kind, loving, and full of good humor, I shall never forget him and always love him. My condolences to the family.

Dr. Gradinger was our visiting professor back in the early '80s. There must be something in the air in Iowa that makes people especially kind and considerate. Two years previously, our surgical visiting professor was Iowan Ed Mason, the father of the gastric bypass. Both were wonderful teachers and great with the residents. Dr. Gradinger made you feel like you knew him all your life. And my God, he was handsome! RIP

In the early morning hours of 21 May 1969, I was involved in a near-fatal auto accident. When the ambulance brought me into Peninsula Hospital, it was Dr. Gradinger who was there to receive me. I was just 18 years old, and he literally saved my life that night. Over the next 12 years he performed 9 reconstructive surgeries to restore my shattered face. He was kind, generous, compassionate, patient and wise. He was also supremely gifted in his profession. I cannot begin to imagine what my...

Gil was a man for all seasons. He was beautiful to see and to know the beauty within him. He was my precious doctor, friend, bridge player with my Bill in the doctor´s lounge, and so much more. His love for Sally and his family was always evident. My heart hurts at the passing of such an extraordinary man. He was a man for all seasons. However, more than that he was a mensch. His memory truly is for a blessing.
