Not sure what to say?

Dear Rene, I don't know if you remember me, my sisters Hilda and Rose, or our Aunt Matilde, your Dad's paternal aunt. Your Dad and his siblings organized a Guevara family reunion at your home in Santa Maria the Summer of 1993. At age 91, my aunt was so excited about a road trip from Austin, Texas to Santa Maria, California where she would get to, once again, see some of her long-deceased brother's eldest children after 40+ years and meet some of the younger ones for the first time. I...

I am deeply saddened by Gilberts passing. Gilbert and I grew up in Coachella, small town where everyone knew everyone. After high school we answered the call to serve our country. I found myself at Sheppard AFB in Texas, home sick and down in the dumps. One day on my way to the barracks, someone jumped out in front of me. It was Gilbert with a big Coachella smile. We supported each other till he shipped out, I shipped out a short time after. Months later I found myself at Danang AFB,...

A True Warrior who loved serving our community and fought hard for social justice.. I will miss your sense of humor and kindness.
Rest In Peace Gil.

I knew Gil from my work at Oxnard College. I appreciate his sense of civic responsibility and the manner in which he put others at ease. I didn't know he had been in the military, a subject that we could have kicked around.

I am so sorry to hear of Gil's passing. I remember Gil fondly through his works with the American GI Forum with regard to a scholarship I received from the forum in 1983 (UC Berkeley, Class of 1987). He is a wonderful human being who cares about the betterment of others. I will honor his memory and do my best to be kind and generous to my fellow man. With condolences to you and your family and great sadness in my heart for Gil's loss.

Love you my brother Gilbert Guevara, until we meat again.

My condolences to his daughter René, granddaughters Destiny and Cynthia.
I will miss my brother and will be difficult not having him around. Will always love you brother.
Rest in Peace.

George J. Guevara

I knew Gil many years ago when we were both working with kids, he in Santa Maria, I in Santa Barbara... just connected with him again in the last few years on Face Book. So saddened by his loss. His world view and mine were quite similar. Love to all the family.

I am sorry for your loss. May the God of comfort be with you during your time of mourning. Isaiah 61:1,2 ; Matthew 5:4
