Not sure what to say?

Will always be a top "influencer" in my life, always. Bob Pace

I was honored to know, be coached by and love Coach Gil Meier! Our association and friendship span decades. He coached me and became a good friend and mentor. Thanks to Coach Gil Meier I was able to achieve State Championship in Wrestling for both 1959 and 1960 at Olympus High School. He was more than a Coach and we became very good friends. Years later I was serving in the Jordan River Temple and heard a very familiar voice and knew it was the voice of my beloved Coach Meier....It was...

I was aware that Coach Meier died a year ago but was reminded by another one of his admirers, Don Armstrong, that messages still could be written. Coach Meier was a "Coaches Coach". He treated his players evenly and without showing favorites. I admired his sensitivity in a field that doesn't necessarily require that attribute. We communicated some over the last decade and I always appreciated his thoughtfulness. He was always appropriate. This world needs more men like Gil Meier.

Coach Gil Meier was, in my mind to me, a "Prince of a Man", a great leader of young men who showed us in the correct direction in life. I respected him and he was my mentor in football and wrestling at Olympus H.S. during the years '58, '59 through my May graduation in '60. He has left behind a columns of young men athletes who would follow Coach Gil over the edge of a cliff if required! In England is a plaque for "Winston Churchil--it reads...
"Winston Churchill---He will be...

I join my voice with the chorus of men whom Coach Meier profoundly blessed by his loving, but firm coaching. Oh, how we respect and love our Coach!
Steve Iba, Quarterback, class of '62

Gil Meier taught my health class at Olympus in 1959. He was well liked and always respectful to the students. I never knew what happened to him, but immediately recognized his face from the photo accompanying this notice. It is wonderful to know that he led such a full life and accomplished so much. Thank you Coach Meier for a life well lived. This obituary was an inspiration.

Olympus High Class of '61 has lost our second former coach in a month. Football success was high under Coach Meier, wrestling success was phenomenal--5 state championships--and character building success was his highest achievement as he taught athletes not to think they were better than others but to be more responsible than others, and if there were admiration to be had, it was to be earned off the field by their conduct as well as on the field by their capabilities. I remember the star...

So sorry to hear about the passing of coach Meier. He was truly a great man and was a good influence on a lot of young men. He will be sorely missed. Condolences to all of his family and loved ones.
Steven Elcock, Olympus High class of 1960

Gil Meier was my bishop when I was a teenager. I remember once when I had a "Bishop's Interview" with him and he asked me if I was saying my prayers regularly. I told him I said my prayers, but not regularly. He asked me to promise him I would say my prayers every day. I did and, to me a promise is important. I have never missed a day since then that I haven't said my prayers and I am 70 years old.

I am also happy that I got to see and talk with Gil at Ken McCleary's funeral...
