Gilbert Melendrez

Our dear beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Gilbert Patrick Melendrez, age 53, lifelong resident of Las Cruces passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by his loving family. "Gilbert" or "Gil", as he was fondly known to family and friends was born on March 17, 1963 on St. Patrick Day and was very proud of his middle name. He was employed for the City of Las Cruces in the IT department and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Melendrez of the family home; two brothers, Joe Melendrez and Raymundo Melendrez (Tina Perez); and a sister, Minerva Castillo (Eloy) all of Las Cruces. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Isidro Melendrez.
Visitation for Gilbert will begin at 1 PM Wednesday (today), July 27, 2016 in St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 2 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately thereafter with Reverend Juan Camilo Montoya officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
Serving as casket bearers will be Raymundo and Joe Melendrez, Melvin Lopez, Mike Sanchez, Rick Tarango and Larry Carrillo.
