Hillcrest Funeral Home Burial Park & Cremations - San Antonio Obituary

Gilberto Silva passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones on December 7, 2018 at the age of 62.
Gilbert was born on April 29, 1956 in Rio Grande City, TX to Raul Silva, Sr. and Carmen Olivares. The family moved to San Antonio, where Gilbert graduated from Holy Cross High School and began what would be a 30-year career working for the San Antonio Light and the San Antonio Express News.

He was passionate about music, having the opportunity to witness some of the greatest rock, pop and country singers and bands live (sometimes twice!). Gilbert was a foodie before the term existed, and he shared his love of food with those who loved him. While he wasn’t a world traveler, Gilbert did enjoy and experience much of the beauty America has to offer, journeying from New Orleans all the way up to Seattle.

One thing that can be said for Gilbert was that he lived a full life. He sang along to his favorite groups in concert, ate many fantastic meals and saw some of the most beautiful places in the world. He had two beautiful daughters, with whom he shared wonderful memories. He married the love of his life and added two new sons to his family. He touched countless lives with his sense of humor and remarkable ability to find the best in bad circumstances. Gilbert will be greatly missed, but his presence will continue to be felt in the lives of all those who loved him.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Raul Silva, Sr. and Carmen Olivares Silva. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanie McKay Silva; daughters, Lauren Silva (John Paul) and Sydney Silva; sons, Chase Treviño  and Jared Treviño; brother, Raul Silva, Jr. (Memduha); and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. in the Hillcrest Chapel.  The family will honor his wish for cremation.

Not sure what to say?

My condolences to the Silva family. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all this day. Brother Gilbert, you will be missed, I recall the many memories we shared together at Holy Cross, the athletics we participated in, as well as, the neighborhood activities we shared growing up in the St Stephen's Catholic Church area. Rest in peace my brother.

My condolences to the family God Bless from the Russell Kreig family HC Class of 75.

My thoughts and prayers are with Silva family. Gilbert and I go back to SJB days and Holy Cross a little quiet but very humorous always smiling, even though we had not seen each other in a long time he will always be remembered in our hearts. "Shake down the thunder" my friend.

Our sincere condolences for to the family. God bless.

I only remember the great times we all had together when I was a kid. What a goofy, fun, larger than life uncle you were! Every time I see you I also see my dad and grandpa. My only hope is that you passed in peace, without pain, without anxiety, and with family and some of my incredible coworkers who were at your side. As Audrey Hepburn said, Life is hard. In fact it kills you. Just know that you remain alive in the hearts of those you loved and those who loved you. You will forever live in...

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
