As a teacher at Birchwood, I worked with Gil for several years before he retired. He was a true advocate of public education, I continued to see him occasionally at St. James Presbyterian Church. He will be missed by many.

Gil was one fine gentleman, along with his wife Inge they were an amazing couple. When they were living on Marine Drive back in the mid fifties I used to babysit Brian & Mark, what a wonderful family. I believe Gil will always be remembered as an exceptional teacher and leader in the many organizations of the teaching profession.

Mr. Thurston was my 6th grade teacher at Lowell School 1957-1958. He was excellent, required your full attention in class and was so good with all of us in the classroom. If one had a problem you were not afraid to go talk to him about it. We gained much knowledge in the 6th grade for sure. My thoughts go out to his family. Jeff Fox, Rapid City, SD.

I was lucky to be in Mr. Thurston's 6th grade class at Lowell; he was a wonderful, demanding teacher and handled our rowdy class of 38 so well. What a great guy!
