Ginny Major, 77, of Blencoe, Iowa died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa with Elder Don Bothwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Little Sioux Cemetery in Little Sioux. There will be a visitation from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Ginny was born April 30, 1934 in Little Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of Hayes and Alice (Carlson) Alton. She attended Little Sioux High School and graduated with her high school degree. Ginny and Dean Major were united in marriage at Elk Point, South Dakota on July 22, 1987. They made their home together in Blencoe until his death on February 6, 2004. Ginny spent most of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her home and raising her children. In 1983, Ginny purchased the Venture Inn in Blencoe, which she owned with her husband until 1994. In her spare time, Ginny enjoyed tending to her flowers and watching the birds in her yard. She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Blencoe. She especially loved spending time with the friends that she met at the Venture Inn. Survivors include two daughters, Marcie (Tim) Zittritsch of Spencer, IA and Kristie Ruffcorn of Blencoe; eight grandchildren, Dane Zittritsch, Tyler Zittritsch, Andrea Burgess, Ethan Burgess, Rosie Lozano, Todd Burbridge, Nathan Burbridge, and Jennifer Burbridge; nine great-grandchildren, Anika Zittritsch, Aubriella Zittritsch, Ellie Burgess, Landon Mohr, Beau Mohr, Isabelle Mohr, Nedelle Smartt, Bethany Burbridge, and Baylen Burbridge; one brother, Virdus (Patty) Alton of Olathe, KS; one sister, Darlene White of Pisgah, IA; one sister-in-law, Marion Alton of Denver, CO; and a special friend, Gene Hedges, of Blencoe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her parents; one daughter, Ranea Little; one son-in-law, Larry Ruffcorn; two sisters, Juanita Tuthill and Ilene Alton; and two brothers, Kenneth Alton and Dwight Alton.
