Living the Life She Wanted
Giovanna Porras realized many of her dreams this year. In January she received an associate accounting degree from Baruch College, and six months ago she landed an accounting job at General Telecom.

Ms. Porras, 24, lived in Queens with her mother and was proud to be working at the famous World Trade Center, said her older sister, Roxana Batista. Ms. Porras planned to study for her C.P.A. degree in a few months and was sticking to her diet by working out.

"She was just a happy, cheerful person," Ms. Batista said, the type who was there for everyone. She was like a second mother to her nephews and pulled for her boyfriend, Demetrios Xanthopoulos, at softball games. Mr. Xanthopoulos, also an accountant, said Ms. Porras pushed him to do his best.

She was the kind of young woman who was as comfortable escorting her mother, Adela Romero, around town as she was nightclub-hopping with her friends. "There was not one person in the world she wouldn't get along with," Mr. Xanthopoulos said.

Not sure what to say?

Another year without you here with us. I miss you so much prima. Still ask myself why and still don't have an answer. Remembering you is easy I do it every day. Missing you is heartache, that never goes away.
Tu prima,

Rocio

To the family and friends of Giovanna Porras..Twenty years have passed we never forget the tragedy that struck us as a country. I offer you my most sincere condolences on the passing of you daughter, sister, aunt, niece and dear friend. I chose Giovanna's name because we share the same surname, I too am born a Porras. I read her legacy page, She was so young and filled with promise. I wept along with you and share in your pain. We will continue to remember all the lives lost. God Bless you...

At this 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, our church members are praying for the families and friends of the victims. I chose Giovanna's name. I just read her legacy, looked at pics and read some of the notes posted here. To the family and friends of Giovanna - I know you miss her. Prayers are going up for peace and comfort as you mourn losing her but celebrate her life. ---Lisa

20 years later and I always think about you. We were not close at all but I always think about how kind you were, you would stop to chat and always seemed happy to see me. You were different, special. I am 43 now, have lonely days and think you are the type of person that would have made a huge impact in a lot of lives, including mine. You were a Light.
RIP

Such a gorgeous young girl with a beautiful smile.

Lot of memories with you.

My beautiful cousin Giovanna. I love you prima.

In 3 days will be 20 years since that horrible day when you went to work and never came back, and it hurts as much as it did that day. September is the month I dislike the most, September 1st is your birthday, a day to celebrate your life, and 10 days after is the day you took a piece of my heart when you passed away. I miss you more than you imagine, so many memories we shared together. Every time I listen to DLG, Adolescentes or Marc Anthony I see us dancing in the livingroom.
I LOVE...
