Eyer, Ind.: Gladys Carolina (Dixon) Baier, 97, died in Dyer, Ind., on Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, 2010.
Gladys Baier, born Aug. 1, 1913, to George Warner Dixon (Ned) and Dorthea C. Dixon in Aberdeen, S.D. Gladys moved to northwest Indiana in July 2008 from Kalispell, Mont., her residence for 25 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Louis H. Baier; her parents; her stepfather, John L. Ruckman Sr.; brother, Frank M. Dixon; brother, George W. Dixon; half sister, Dorthea Ruckman German; and half sister, Josephine Ruckman Donnelly.
Surviving her are daughter, Louise E. Tallent, and husband, Donald R. Tallent; grandson, James L. Tallent; grandson, Matthew R. Tallent,; and grandson, Jonathan D. Tallent; half brother, John L. Ruckman Jr., wife, Sheryl; half brother, Robert B. Ruckman, wife, Jan; and several other relatives including nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends of Gladys are numerous including Jim Kick, Bridget Pellett, Martha DalSanto, Gwen, Vi, Zackie, Billie, Roselie, Iolie, the Hartsfield Village staff and the Hospice of the Calumet Area staff.
The celebratory visitation with Gladys' Indiana family was held at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave., St. John, Ind., Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, 2:30-6:30 p.m. A memorial service open to all friends was 6:30-7 p.m. Presiding the service was Pastor Tim York, First Christian Church, Dyer, with collaborative efforts from Pastor James Huff, Bible Presbyterian Church, Kalispell, Mont., and Mike Pennanen, Hospice of the Calumet Area Chaplin.
Memorials may be given to Bible Presbyterian Church, Fifth Ave. W. and Fourth St., Kalispell, Mont., 59901 or one of personal choice.
