Gladys was a source of strength, perseverance and vitality. I didn't have the benefit of knowing her earlier in life but can only imagine what she was able to accomplish. I'll never forget the night that she couldn't remember that the caregivers were there to assist her and flew from the home to ask neighbors for help. The caregiver who was 50 years her junior couldn't keep up with her running up a steep incline. I am honored to have said I knew her and that we were peers in the field of...

Gladys loved, and was loved by, all animals and birds. When we moved in as her neighbor,she explained to me that Anna's hummingbirds stayed in Oregon all year, so I had to make sure to keep my feeders up year round.. That was 20 years ago and my feeders remain up and full all year. And they always will, with love in her memory.

Customer: I thought you said your dog didn't bite?
Bartender: That's not my dog.

In the 20 years that Gladys was our neighbor, she always led with a joke. Granted, she had a repertoire of about six jokes that just got retold in an endless loop, but she loved telling them. She always wore a smile and a hat, most often red. She was truly a character who loved to be the life of the party. She had her repertoire of jokes. Me, I've got a ton of 'Gladys stories' for the rest of my life......

Gladys Hewitt (Vlasta Funda) was a loyal member of the Czech Society of Oregon. We extend our thoughts and prayers to her family and friends as she joins her late husband Llewellyn forever!
