Gladys Brown Richards
Gladys Brown Richards, 93, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011, at Shenandoah House.
She was born on October 28, 1917, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Andrew E. and Ada (Sandridge) Brown.
She was also preceded in death by her husband William James Richards; and five brothers, Dennis, John, Oz, Clyde and Tom Brown.
Gladys was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. She retired in 1980 from Dupont after 35 years of service. Known as "Granny" by everyone, she never met a stranger. She loved BINGO, her soap opera, "Days of Our Lives", but mostly spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Winnie Richards Brown and her husband, Ronnie, of Waynesboro and Debra Richards Fine of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Tera Metcalf and her husband, Chuck, and Tony Brown; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Metcalf and her fiance, Chris Cyrus, and Travis Metcalf; and a great-great granddaughter, Kamryn Cyrus.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 18 2011, at Augusta Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Eric Childress will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2011, at McDow Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her daughter Winnie, 1880 South Talbott Place, Waynesboro.
The family would like to express a special thank you to their hospice family, Hospice of the Shenandoah, and request memorial contributions be made to them at Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939; or, to the building fund at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
