Gladys P. (Marvin) Scherer, 81, of Fredonia Township, died on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Tendercare of Marshall. Mrs. Scherer was born on January 25, 1927, in Union City to John and L. Pearl (Dilts) Marvin. She attended Hayner School. On August 26, 1943, she married Lewis E. Scherer. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1997. Mrs. Scherer was a machine operator at Trim Parts in Marshall. She also worked for Marshall Fabricators, Marshall Woodlan Metal and Randall Foods in Tekonsha. Mrs. Scherer was an avid outdoors woman she enjoyed hunting and fishing. She was a frequent fisher on Nottawa Lake where she also owned and operated Scherer Boat Rental for many years. Mrs. Scherer also operated a furniture refinishing business out of her home. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her lawn. Mrs. Scherer enjoyed spending time with her family especially time spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Jerry) Long of Tekonsha, three sons, Gary (Mary Lou) Scherer of Florida City, FL, Douglas Scherer of Tekonsha, and Dwight (Loretta) Scherer of Burlington. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, a brother Ernest Marvin of Deming, NM, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandchild John Henry Scherer, a daughter-in-law Marlene Scherer, three sisters, and three brothers. Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-8pm with family present from 1-3pm and 5-7pm. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11am on Monday at the funeral home with Reverend Barbara Pryor officiating. A private interment will take place at Lyon Lake Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Church of Tekonsha or the Marshall VFW.
