Glen Smith Gillespie, 88 of Camden died Sunday. He was the son of William Boone and Beulah Ebernice Smith Gillespie. He was born in Nevada County on February 22, 1916 the youngest of 7 children. He was a Veteran of World War II, Corporal Battery F, 142D Field Artillery in the US Army and received 6 Bronze Stars and 1 Purple Heart. He retired from International Paper Company in 1980 with 40 years of service. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and Couples Sunday School Class.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Emma Lee Byrd Gillespie. He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Mueller and husband, John of Drasco, AR; son, Kevin Gillespie and wife, Jerri of Collierville, TN; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Lela Wren of Chattanooga, TN and Doris Hildebrand of Camden; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2004 at the First united Methodist Church with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. John Dill will officiate the service.
