Glenda Wright Obituary

ODESSA, TEXAS - On 12/19/20, Glenda Ruth Wright left her temporary home on Earth to join her savior, Jesus, for eternity.

Glenda was born on July 14, 1944 to Ruth Clinger Walker and Andrew Glen Walker. The world was blessed place because of her. Glenda spent most of her life blessing others through her job as a nurse. Glenda mentored numerous other nurses and practitioners in the art of compassion. She loved children and made it her mission to care for them and their wellbeing. She donated her services to the underprivileged in the name of Christ. She never wanted any notoriety for her actions, but simply for others to love as Christ loved us.

Glenda began her services as a candy striper while attending Crockett Junior High where she made many lifelong friends. She graduated from Odessa High School with honors in 1962. She then went onto graduate from Scott and White Memorial School of Professional Nursing on March 5, 1966. Glenda moved back to Odessa and married Kenneth Wright on June 1 1967.

Her career spanned from 1966-2018. She was a pediatric nurse for 52 years and for 38 of those years, she was pediatric nurse practitioner. Glenda was a member of Temple Baptist Church where she was saved and baptized as a child. She was a current member of Life Change Baptist Church.

Glenda will definitely leave a void on this earth. Although she would say, "Don't cry for me, I am with Jesus!" While in the hospital, Glenda lost her little brother, Dewey Lee Walker. Glenda had taken care of her baby brother for the past several years. Rest assured that her last breath on Earth was her first breath in Heaven. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Glenda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth Wright, her cousins: Martha Kay Dodson of Weatherford and Sandra Davis of Stephenville. Glenda would as us to make the world a better place.

There will be a memorial service Tuesday, February 2nd 2021 at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home. In lieu of donation please send to St. Jude or Odessa Animal Shelter.

I was so sorry to hear of Glenda's passing. She & I worked together for so many years at MCH. She was a wonderful nurse, mentor, patient & nurse advocator as well as unit manager. I knew she always had the nurses's backs & would fight for what was right. She loved all the babies & children on her Pedi unit, too, & would always be there for them as well as for the parents. She was a very respected nurse, & she will be missed by so many of her peers she has worked with for over 50 years. Rest in peace, Glenda, you have earned it. May God bless her husband as he moves forward.

I miss Glenda Ruth so much. We were travel buddies for a number of years as we went to Branson, MO. Before I moved to Weatherford if I needed to be in Odessa for several days, her home was always open to me and our other cousin. It was a great shock to learn of her illness and death. RIP Glenda. I love and miss you.

Glenda guided me as an Odessa College nursing student and then as my first charge nurse at Medical Center Hospital. She taught me the foundation of patient care and how to be a patient and family advocate that with dignity and compassion. Her bright smile. She groomed me as a charge nurse. I will be forever grateful and remember Glenda as one of the nursing mentors that laid the foundation for the last 35 years. Thank you Glenda and may we meet again in heaven.

Family of Glenda, I pray that the Lord will hold you in his arms and provide you peace and comfort during this time. Thank you for sharing Glenda with me and all of the nursing students, colleagues and patients that had the privilege to know her.

I met Glenda Many years ago as a new nurse at what was then Woman's and Children's Hospital. I watched her make rounds on new babies with Dr. Furst and I thought "how cool". Glenda and I crossed paths over and over during our careers and we always had fun. So sorry to hear of her passing -not sorry for her because we know where she is! See ya later friend.
