Gloria Ann Barta, age 81, of Flatonia, Texas, was born on June 14, 1943, to Henry and Sophie Jasek in La Grange, Texas. She passed away on January 31, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. She was one of eleven children. Gloria was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, granny, great-granny, and friend. Gloria spent most of her time with family and friends, spoiling her great-grandchildren and doing the farm life with her husband. She was mostly proud to be a great-granny.


Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Sophie Jasek; two brothers, Jerame and Henry Jasek; 7 sisters, Angeline Dowell, Levine Schmidt, Ivy Curry, Geraldine Blum, Celestine Widacki, Esther Toucket, and Bertha Ruether; and son-in-law Ronald Gartman.


She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Edwin Barta; two daughters, Sheryl Gartman and Diane Rodela and husband Daniel; 3 grandsons, Steven McFarlin and wife Penny, Arron Gartman and wife Wendie; James McFarlin and girlfriend Maura; 1 granddaughter, Amber Modisette and husband Matthew, 7 great-grandchildren Tony, Hunter, Gavin, Gunner, Whitley, Grayson and Jackson; sister, Irene Michalsky; sister-in-law, Floretta Riley; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.


The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, in Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia.


Memorial contributions may be made to Flatonia Baptist Church, Leukemia Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
