Gloria Eva Campbell

I knew Gloria as the beloved mother of my best friend. Whenever we visited her I was enchanted by her sweetness, her open compassion, and the beauty she created around her. She was to me a model of the most important attributes of the feminine; strong, compassionate, creative, practical intelligence. And so she remains.

Gloria and I worked together at Portland Community College. However, we were more than coworkers, even more than friends. Gloria was my “work mother.” From my very first day back in 1979 she took me under her wing and there I stayed. She was always so thorough and particular about her own work. Hers was an ethic hard to match. And yet Gloria always found time for fun. I can still hear her laughter. Our Friday night talks as we worked side by side will always hold fond memories for me.
