Gloria was a close friend of my mother, Joyce McDonald. They met in 1961 when my mother moved to 8th Avenue in Watervliet. Over the next decade, they spent many afternoons playing cards and Scrabble whenever time allowed. Along with Jean Hughes, they were active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Schuyler Heights Fire Department, volunteering at parties—and especially enjoying the clean-up the next day when family members joined in.
