Not sure what to say?

I know this is very late. I'm sorry to have not known of Dr. Childs' passing earlier. He was the most wonderful part of my college years in Alamosa. My violin teacher, a beloved friend, and mentor in many areas of my life. Although I am currently at home caring for my own parents 24/7 most of the time, I still play my violin, and I know he would approve of my having branched into Celtic Fiddle music. He was also used by God to provide for my brother Jim's continued education at UW. I...

I have only wonderful memories of Gordon. I'm still playing my viola and exploring any kind of new music I can find to play on it. He encouraged me to keep on learning, and even since graduating from the University of Wyoming in 1990, I still continue to use the knowledge and skills for playing and the joy of learning that he shared with me.

I was so sorry to learn about the passing of Gordon Childs. Dr. Childs was one of my early musical influences and had an impact on my life, encouraging me to pursue viola as a career and helping set me on this path. I was so happy to re-meet him a few years ago. I wish I'd had the opportunity to see him more these last years, but he has had a lasting impact on my life. Much love to all his family. ~Julie Edwards, Utah Symphony Viola, Associate Adjunct Professor of Viola at University of Utah

Gordon was a longtime honorary member of the Viola d'amore Society of America and the International Viola d'amore Society e.V. With him we are losing an excellent musician, a highly educated scientist and a kind and helpful person. The Society will commemorate him in the Fall Newsletter and at the 10th anniversary concert of the Society in October 2023. Our hearts go out to Gordon's family. Hans Lauerer President of the International Viola d'amore Society e.V.

Gordan Childs was a kind soul displaying the Love of music and sharing his Love of God. I will miss him.

My first and last violin teacher way back in Alamosa, Co. He had a way of making everyone smile. He was as kind as they come.

Dr. Childs was an occasional guest soloist for special music during Sunday sacrament services in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That was in Alamosa, Colorado, in the 1960s when I was just a boy, but this man and his violin filled me with feelings for music and the spirit of the message from his instrument. My mother was a church organist and pianist for 75 years, so she in particular enjoyed a kinship with Gordon (and Elaine too). We all marveled at his world-class...

Congrats to Gordon for His Graduation from Mortality!

It was always a pleasure to see Gordon. His upbeat and friendly demeanor and wealth of stories made for interesting conversations. I remember the many times he would bring out the mysterious Viola of Love and play it for us. A very fitting instrument for his talents. I am sure he made a lot of cherished memories for his many friends and students over the years.
