Not sure what to say?

Definitely one of my favorite teachers at Shasta!

Sorry to read of Gordon's death. I will always remember his smile when he visited Uncle Joe.
Vandy Compton's niece

I remember Mr. Compton well from my newspaper delivery route. He would occasionally meet me at the paper box, and we would speak briefly. He always treated me as a person, rather than just a kid delivering papers. To this day, as I drive down the road to my parents' home, passing his house brings back fond memories. I don't remember the names of most of the people on my newspaper route from the late 1970s, but I will always remember Mr. Compton.

I had Mr. compton for history in my jr. year and my first day of school at Shasta where he instantly became my favorite teacher with this opening line.Womens lib was just coming into vogue when he asked the girls in our class how many of them believed in womens lib and after many hands shot skyward he proclaimed" boys sit still-Girls pass out the books! Ironically the day of his passing I was having a long talk about him with "Coach Dick Lamoreaux who confessed to borrowing his vaunted zone...

Mr. Compton was one of my favorite teachers at Shasta. Like Rich said, he always had a smile on his face. I never saw him get angry, he was patient, kind & had a great sense of humor. I was a typical teenage girl, rather than pay attention to his lesson for the day, I was busy passing notes. One day my friend, Edna & I thought we'd fool him & write in shorthand. Of course, he caught us & as we laughed at him because we were sure he couldn't read our shorthand, he assured us he would have...

I can't tell you how much it means to me to read all these wonderful notes about my dad. It helps so much to hear how much he meant to all of you. Over the years I have heard so many great stories about his students and his players. He really did love teaching, and coaching truly was his joy in life. He went into teaching just so he could coach. He really enjoyed all the reunions and he loved running into former students and players. He really wanted to go to that last reunion in Corning,...

Lucille, Chris, Ron, and My Dear Connie,
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your husband and father. I know you will miss him very much. I think of all of you often.

I miss my Grandpa!!! When I found out he had passed I thought to my self 'what do I have that he gave me that I can cherish forever?' Unfortunately over the years I have misplaced childhood presents and was feeling pretty down. I then began to think... my grandpa did give me something. What he gave me is better than a present... he gave me memories; wonderful memories that I can cherish forever. I will never forget the special times he shared with Clint, Tiff and I. His bbq burgers,...

Mr. Compton was a fantastic man. I had him for P.E. in high school (class of 1970). He always pushed you to be your best and encouraged you. He had a nickname for me, "Snickerdoodle!" I remember one time in the early 1980s, I was leaving church and I heard a familiar voice call that name. It was Mr. Compton. I was by now married with a family and was presently a police officer for Redding. He told me he probably shouldn't call me that anymore. I made a deal with him; he could call me that if...
