GORDON KIPP

My heart and prayers go out to you, Cathy and your family in this time of sorrow. I will let the "Grasso family" know of your dad's passing. Although I didn't know your father, he must have been a wonderful man. He sure left behind very honorable children. Brenda Heck (Daytona Beach, Fl.)

I didn't know Mr. Kipp but his daughter, Cathy, was one of my roommates in college. I remember being impressed (more like blown away!) when she told me she was going home one weekend for a "family meeting". How forward thinking he must have been, to take time to listen to his family when the time came for major decisions that affected them all. Made me wish I knew him then, makes me sad I didn't know him later. My thoughts are with the family.

Mr. Kipp was my favorite Sunday School teacher at Ormond Union Church. More than fifty years ago I still remember that he made sure that we high school students had time each class to discuss any issues important to us. He taught us to respect each other's opinions and to look to the Lord for help. Today I count his daughter Cathy as one of my favorite friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. We are all blessed to have known him this long.

My father Ron Edwards (Local Historian) who has already went home to be with the Lord and Mr. Kipp spent a lot of time together sharing local history. Dad always said Mr. Kipp was a wealth of knowledge and a very nice man. The "Old Timer's" are slowely departing but like dad and Mr. Kipp have left a legacy in this local community. I met Gordon and his family when I married his niece, Nancy. Gordon made me feel a part of his family and we shared both happy and sad times. I will remember the Florida history stories he shared of the WWII submarine watchtowers along the coast, the first sugar plantation site and tales of John D. Rockefellar and Ormand Beach. Gordon (and his wife Betty) was an avid bird watcher and nature photographer and I remain thankful for the time he took to take my family to his special viewing...

Gordon Kipp epitomized the American Dream! Gordon served as a prime example of what Tom Brokaw called “The Greatest Generation.” Besides serving his country in World War II, Gordon built a very successful career in the newspaper business and helped his community in numerous capacities, some of which are also of interest to me. I didn't know Mr. Kipp personally; however, I admire his civic work. I did know his daughter Cathy Boyle & see where she got her teaching skills. I knew her when I went to Seabreeze Sr. High. My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family. May the memories that are too painful to remember now, someday soon bring a smile to your face. Gordon inspired us all and will be much missed, but never forgotten.
