Gordon L. Manning 77 of Coventry passed away in Newport on Thursday June 6. He was born on June 20, 1928 the son of Athol and Marion (Jeffrey) Manning. In 1950 he married Elizabeth Miles who predeceased him. Gordon was a life member of the Newport Elks Club # 2155 and was a member of Memphremagog Lodge #65 F& A. M. He and his business partner Harold Turner owned and operated Manning & Turner on East Main St. for many years. After leaving the business he sold cars in the area for several years for several of the area auto dealers as well as operating his own auto sales business. He worked for Carl Larose in Barton for over 10 years before retiring. Among other endeavors he and Elizabeth owned and operated a Laundromat in Orleans. Gordon was the type of man who always kept busy and especially enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was a man always willing to give a hand to help others. He was a faithful member of the Federated Church of Orleans for over 15 years.

Gordon is survived by his long time companion Eve Mishou and 2 sons: David of Essex Vt. and Jeff and his wife Wendy of Orleans. His grandchildren: Aaron Manning of Seattle Wa., and Nathan Graves of Newport, he is also survived by his brother Howard Manning and his wife Arleen of Ill., and by several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his dog Bramley, his faithful companion and playmate , and his special cat “Little One”. Gordon was predeceased by his brothers Bill and Red and sisters Kay Brock and Ruth Young.

Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home 4670 Darling Hill Rd (Formally Sias Ave.) on June 11, from 12-3:00 pm. where funeral Services will be held at 3:00 with Rev. Jerry Piper officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. Should friends desire contributions may be made in Gordons memory to the North Country Hospital Renal Dialysis Unit C/O Wendy Franklin, Development Office, 189 Prouty Dr. Newport, Vt. 05855. I have known Gordie since 1952 when I came to Newport from Germany as the wife of Harold Turner. I knew of Gordie long before that since Harold was always talking about him. He'll be missed. He was a wonderful friend.
