During the course of my life, my father shared with me several accounts of his experiences in Europe during World War II with the Army Corps Of Engineers, but the best one was one he told to me only a couple of years ago. After the Surrender, Dad’s commanding officer was assigned to inspect some of Germany’s underground munitions plants. The main level of one plant was known to the Allied command, but Dad and his CO (probably a colonel—Dad referred to him as the “Old Man”) discovered yet...
