Gordon Eugene Singleton passed away peacefully at his home in Torrance California from Lung Cancer on Sunday, November 15, 2009. Gordon was born in Bucksport, South Carolina on June 10, 1933. As a child Gordon attended Indiantown School and Kingstree School, and was associated with Indiantown Presbyterian Church in Indiantown South Carolina. He then served for 4 years in the US Air Force, as a Staff Sergeant. He married Ruth Eve Fisher of Passaic New Jersey in 1956. After serving in the Air Force Gordon and Ruth moved to Los Angeles, California where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from USC. He worked at Northrop Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1985. Gordon enjoyed exploring the southwest four-wheeling and camping with his friends and family for many years. He is survived by his daughter Susan Halderman and her husband Mike of Temecula CA, his loyal dog Judy, Susan Sanders of Summerville SC, Barbara & James Bowers of Goose Creek SC, Mary & Barry Brame of Hanahan SC, and his very special grandniece Rebecca Bowers of Columbia SC, special cousins Keith & Carol Snowden, Betty Hicks of Florence SC, Thomas M. Snowden of Albuquerque NM, Dr. Douglas Snowden and family of Sardis SC, Stephen & Janie Snowden of Florence SC, Sarah & Dave Thomas of Florence SC, Billie Ann & LeGrand Owens of Hemmingway SC, and Bob Pendergrass of Palos Verdes Estates CA. He will also be missed by his good friends George & Pat Cayer of Bellflower CA, and his special neighbor and friend Ralph Avakian. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Eve Singleton, his sister Barbara Aileen Nichols, his father Lasea A. Singleton, his mother Nena Snowden, and his grandparents Samuel John and Margaret Ann Snowden. There will be a service on Tuesday December 1, 2009 at Rice Mortuary in Torrance California at 10:00 in the morning with a reception to follow at the mortuary. On December 2, 2009 both Gordon and his wife Ruth will be interned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego California. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Doberman Pinscher & Little Paws Rescue of Fillmore CA (Dobie Rescue) or to Lung Cancer Foundation of America (LCF America).
