WILLIAMSBURG — Gordon Roger "Gordy" Sorensen, 72, of Williamsburg, formerly of Muskegon, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at Munson Medical Center, after an extended illness.

Gordy was born Dec. 12, 1933, to Soren and Hilda (Vander Kooi) Sorensen in Muskegon. He lived in Muskegon most of his life, and retired from Cook's Appliance in 1996. He married Barbara Malmstrom on Oct. 28, 1995, in Muskegon. They made their home in Williamsburg.

Gordy was a member of Muskegon Eagles Local 668. He enjoyed art, country music, especially Hank Williams Sr., and watching Tigers baseball on TV.

Gordy is survived by his wife of 10 years; five children, Roger Sorensen of Muskegon, Kayleen (Earl) Schatzer of North Carolina, Randy (Cathy) Sorensen of Muskegon, Ryan Sorensen of Muskegon, and Pamela Sorensen of Muskegon; step-children, Chris (Steve) Zieba, Debbie (Randy) Rhoads, Denise (Gary) Eichler, Rick Malmstrom, Craig (Stacey) Malmstrom, and Lauri (Scott) Harrity; siblings, Robert Sorensen, Harold (Jill) Sorensen, Vivian (Sorensen) Cooke, William (Pat) Sorensen; 10 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his father, Soren Sorensen, and his mother, Hilda (Vander Kooi) Sorensen.

A visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pachesny-Jend Funeral Home, 1415 Peck St., Muskegon, (231) 722-2488. The rosary will take place at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at St. Michael's Church, Muskegon. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Muskegon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Elk Rapids and Pachesny-Jend Funeral Home of Muskegon.

Barb,I am David Runk.I always was in Wild Bills when Gordy worked there,and you were both very charming,and had a way,between you both to just really make me laugh. I am so very sorry to you and his kids that this is the only way for me to send my condolences,but I do live in Florida now.
