I ran Cross Country and Track for Coach Spencer from fall 1967 - spring 1970. Being a new kid at Southwestern, I recall starting out my sophomore year thinking I was a football player. However, Coach Spencer along with a friend encouraged me to come run on the cross-country team. His encouragement and motivation pushed me to run and the more I trained the easier it came to me. I remember track practices, one day as I was running as fast as I could practicing the 1/4 mile, I heard coach running right behind me saying pick it up Alexander. It is wonderful that his life was long and meaningful. Condolences to his family. I graduated Southwestern HS in 1968.
