Grace Clavell Obituary
Grace Eva Clavell (nee) Werner, 87, was born in New York City on May 24, 1933 to Arthur and Mary Werner. Passed in peace on March 27, 2021, Grace was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Henry (Hank) Clavell.
Grace lived most of her life in the Washington Heights/Inwood section of NYC where she raised her six children Henry (Katie), Teresa Marchbanks (Bill), Doreen Egan (Tom), Michael (Eileen), Brian (Mary) and Laura McElhennon (Liam). Grace is also survived by the pride and joy of her life; 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Grace was predeceased by her sister Mary Duren and is survived by her other siblings Teresa MacFarlane, Arthur (Butch) Werner, Barbara Ledford, and Joan Ginty. Grace also had many nieces and nephews who she loved and a large circle of friends who she always considered family. Family and friends were most important to Grace.
Grace graduated from St. Rosa Lima High School in NYC. She worked the night shift in the Records Department at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for many years. Grace and Hank were also building superintendents, first in Washington Heights and then Inwood. Grace's incredible ability to work two jobs while raising six children was a testament to her strong work ethic. Grace was a very compassionate, accepting person. Her home was always open to anyone who needed someone to lean on.
Grace will be missed but her spirit will remain in all of us. From her lifelong childhood friends, the many friends of her siblings and children, the residents, and staff at the Allendale Community for Senior Living and of course her family, we are forever grateful for Grace being in our lives.
Family will receive guests on Tuesday, March 30th from 4-8pm; at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Parish on March 31st at 10am. Interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.

Our sincerest condolences to the entire Clavell/Werner family. Grace was a very special lady and friend. We were fortunate to have had Hank and Grace as both family friends and the best building superintendents! While Grace will be missed by many she must be overjoyed to be reunited with her true love- may she rest in peace.
