DOWDY, Grace "Lucille" Harris. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and fixed the best fried chicken this side of the Mississippi. Her kitchen was filled with all the wonderful homemade delights like southern potato salad, potato soup, cherry cobbler, chocolate, lemon and coconut cream pie (from real coconut), chicken and dumplings, light rolls and Damson Preserves. Lucille Dowdy of Cumberland, formerly of Arvonia, returned to the Lord on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 10:25 p.m. All those who knew her will miss her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Grace and Julian Harris; her husband, George Dowdy Sr.; live-in sister-in-law, Marie Dowdy; and daughter--in-law, Sue Ranson Dowdy. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Boyd; son-in-law, James Boyd; son, George Dowdy Jr.; grandsons, Lee Dowdy (Elizabeth) and Marvin Boyd; granddaughter, Joellen Franklin (Timmy); great-granddaughters, Logan Franklin, Rozelia Dowdy and Jesse Dowdy. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Fitzgerald Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home. Puckett Funeral Home is serving the family.
