Hartman-Jones Funeral Home - McComb Obituary

Grace Ann Brown Green, 95, a resident of the Montgomery Community in Lincoln County, died March 28, 2009, at University Medical Center following a sudden illness. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb and continues Tuesday at Montgomery Baptist Church from 9:30 a.m. until services there at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Mike McKee officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was a lifelong member of Montgomery Baptist Church, and, at the time of her death, was the oldest member. Throughout her many years there, she served in many capacities. Mrs. Green was born August 8, 1913, in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of Thomas D. and Mary Angeline Brown. Sheworked at Summit Mills/Kellwood at one point in her life. However, she was probably better known as the 'Avon Lady' for many years. She was a loyal representative for Avon; she thoroughly believed in her products and used them herself. People have always commented on how pretty she was even at the age of 95. How did Tom and Angie Brown know that the name they gave their baby 95 years ago would be so fitting? The name 'Grace' is of Latin origin, and means 'blessing'--- and that she was---a blessing to so many people! She was known as 'Mamaw Green' or 'Mamaw Grace' not only by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren but also by many others. She knew and even enjoyed hard work such as mowing her yard and raising a garden; she did that until she was probably 90. When people describe her, they use such words as gracious, prim and proper, cute, and sweet. One family member described her perfectly when he said, 'Mamaw Green was content with the simplest pleasures in life.' Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Green; her only son, Donald R. Green; her son-in-law, H. F. (Woody) Woodall; two brothers, Enoch and Lem Brown; three sisters, Carrie Johnston, Hazel Busby, and Laura Pence. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bridgette Jackson. Survivors include her only daughter, Mozelle Woodall of Summit; two grandsons and their wives, Ted and Jeanie Woodall of Jackson and Dale W. and Sherrie Green of Picayune; one grandson-in-law, Joe Jackson of Summit; four granddaughters and their husbands, Yvonne and Gerald Howell of McComb; Yvette and George Lott of Summit; Lea Anne and Ken Culp and Lori Green of Brandon; eight great-grandchildren, Shane and Liz Woodall of Byram, Jeffrey Woodall of Jackson, Dusty Lott of Summit, Tyler Howell of McComb, Lacey Jackson of Summit, Amanda Green and Rebecca Green of Picayune and Hannah Brown of Brandon; three great-great-grandchildren, Bailey Ainsworth, Vance and Parker Grace Woodall all of Byram. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons, Ted, Dale, Shane, Jeffrey, Dusty, and Tyler. The family requests any memorials be made to Montgomery Baptist Church at 0495 Montgomery Road, Summit, MS 39666.
