Not sure what to say?

I met Brother Clawson in about 1975 at Temple square as he was signing the moral of Christ as a 12 year old boy teaching the elders and priests in the temple. He told me a little about his background and I never forgot how inspired he was to paint the young Jesus with blond hair and blue eyes. As a fellow painter he gave me incentive to follow his lead as his life was devoted to the church.

I went to Lowell Elementary and learned from a friend who knew him from childhood, that he knew at age 5 that he wanted to be an artist. My wife Shirley took an art class with him at East High and had a crush on him all through High School. This came to his attention at our 50th High School Reunion. While at the reunion,I won a drawing and was given one of Grants oil paintings which I now have hanging in my office. My wife Shirley also worked with his wife Irma who worked at the telephone...

Irma and Family
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Grant. I was just thinking about all of you the other day. I saw in the Church News that Grant had passed away.
I remember growing up and coming to your home and seeing many of the paintings Grant was painting for the Church in progress. It was so neat to see the final painting.
I remember Grant describing the details of the painting and who was the model for the various individuals in the painting.
It was a fun...

We didn't know who this wonderful artist was until we watched a story on KSL last week that moved us to tears. Please know how grateful we are to your husband, father and grandfather for his beautiful talent and his commitment to blessing others' lives through his paintings of the Savior. His work has blessed our lives and strengthened our testimonies, as we know that is the case for millions throughout the world. We feel that we know the Savior even more because of these paintings and we...

We extended our deepest sympathy and love to Irma and family. We share fond memories of Grant. He was a talented humble man.

I just heard about Grant and am heartsick. HE was truly one of my most favorite persons I have ever got to know well. I had the honor of working closely with him for the past six years to get him to leave his amazing life history and to help me solve art questions I had about the 1960's and 1970's art that was done for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is one of my heroes.

My condolences to sweet Irma,

Sister Ann Marie Atkinson, Art missionary

To Our dear Clawson Family:

We were surprised and saddened to learn of Grant's passing. From painting scenery for plays or directing news on KSL-TV, we have known and admired his work for decades. Our associations with him in the old South Twentieth Ward were memorable and he was one of our most respected friends. May you all be comforted in this short separation. He is a great artist and he will be missed. Much love to you all.

When I was in 9th grade, I visited the LDS Church Office Building with my seminary bowl team. We had the great opportunity to meet Grant as he was working on the mural that is in the east lobby. He had a sign on the door of the covering tent that said "Grant's tomb". He was kind, encouraging and gracious to all of us and I've never forgotten that meeting. The world has lost a talented man. We might know that life goes on, but in the here and now, we miss their presence. I offer my sincerest...

We were in a study group with Grant and Irma for many years and enjoyed our association with them, and especially Grant's beautiful paintings. He will be sorely missed.
