Greg Page, a former heavyweight boxing champion who had been in a wheelchair since a 2001 fight left him brain damaged, has died at his Louisville home. He was 50.

Saw former boxer Earnie Shavers the other day in Las Vegas memorbilia store and it got me thinking of Greg. He was my friend. I met him in 1979 when he came over to my dormitory in college in Louisville. He was dating a college friend of mine. He was a great guy. Funny, enjoyable to be around, and someone I will never forget. When someone asks me if I know any celebrities...I always tell them how special he was to me.
