Not sure what to say?

I happened to see the sad news about Greg's death in the most recent Harvard magazine. I met Greg as a freshman at Harvard and we were good college friends. We ran cross country and the 2 mile together in the fall, winter and spring. We also bonded during endless bus rides to NYC, Cornell, and other places many miles from Cambridge. Greg was one of the first people I saw at our 25th reunion. His first question to me was: Benjamin, are you in shape? Well, I was in shape because I had...

I met Greg thru cars and racing. I couldn't help but notice how Greg went about his sport more intelligently than most. Racing is in some ways an earthy sport and the way Greg, a gentleman, staked out his belonging was admirable. I know more about the rest of his life now that he's gone, but I knew he was a big deal. Something I thought nice about him was that he didn't act like a big deal. And add to that how he treated relative nobodies like me - he never failed to offer a smile and a hand...

My first brush with Greg was when he responded to a letter I sent in the early 'eighties looking for a job. Greg actually called me back!. He told me that he would like be able to hire someone with my educational background, but the bad economy precluded this possibility. Through the years we had short encounters with Greg, mostly on light rail and the Portland Mall projects. After most meetings that Greg attended, a follow-up question in our staff debriefs almost always was "What did Greg...

It is so hard having one so special move to the next world. I want your family to know anecdotes about Greg have inspired my hopes of how things can be. My heart is with you all.

Dear Baldwin Family, I will miss Greg and his friendship and was one of the young professionals he mentored. He gave me my first job in planning and design. Greg and his Father's impact on the fabric of Portland's urban life will be a lasting tribute to their creativity and love of place.

I fondly remember working with Greg on several Tri-Met projects and he always was stright-forward and sincere in his dealing with me. The Portland community as a whole has lost a great visionary and my family will pray for you during this time of berevement.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

To the Baldwin family
Working with Greg on the first light rail project was very gratifying to me. His enthusiasm and talent served as a beacon to us all in those challenging times.

Dear Baldwin Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Greg on the Westside MAX LRT project. For seven years, he was a willing and creative collaborator with a group of artists I managed. He brought a sense of humor and openness to every suggestion and idea, even the wacky ones. During that time, there were also alot of celebrations and parties with the LRT collaborators. Greg, by far, was the best dancer of all the men! Always a gentleman, with that...
