R.I.P. Greg and go Lions

I was lucky to have had a chance to play on Mr. Barton´s teams. He taught us how to win on and off the field. Chuck Wanke

Greg not only coached, he seemed to love each one of the kids on his teams like a father. He taught me as much about the game as he did about how to become a man.

I had the honor of knowing Greg for a majority of my life. I met him when I was 9 years old at one of his football camps. My parents were going through a rough time when I was 15 and I didnt have money to attend a camp. He comped my entry, and said it was on him. That was the type of person Greg was. I reconnected with him in 2012 and I transferred schools to play for him at Sandy. We had a good run as player/coach, and hes the reason I was able to continue to play football after high school...

I knew Greg as a fellow employee and head of the Junior Sports Department at the MAC. he was perfect in that position as he truly and genuinely cared for kids, not only in sports but in life. He followed many of their careers long after they outgrew the MAC serving them as a mentor in many ways. It was not unusual to see a former MAC kid, now a successful coach sitting in his office soaking up his sage and useful advice Ask any kid who was ever involved in the Junior Sports camps or...

Coach Barton, Thank you for your all that you've given! I was a 12 yr old on your Raleigh Hills little league team in 1982 (The "Shilo Inns"). You coached our team from last place in the league to the top..all the while with your little boy Taylor in one arm and a fungo bat in the other. I've often thought of your influence in my life. You taught us Character First and fundamentals. Today I'm coaching my 9 and 11 year old boys in Bend Oregon and all I can think of are the life lessons...

Today I was saddened to hear about Mr. Barton's passing. I remember in 1968 when he was drafted and played with my hometown team the Detroit Lions. Greg was truly a professional and friendly with us the fans. May he Rest In Peace.

As I began to write an old-fashioned note to take to Gregs memorial today, I realized there may not be a basket ready to receive it, so here I am, wanting to make sure Gregs children hear from me.

My three sons shared their youth sports era with Greg and Taylor. Chris played sports with Taylor and Andrew and Greg took camps from Greg and hung on his every word at any one-on-one encounter. The name Greg Barton was magic in our household. Our experiences at RHLL and Beaverton High...

Greg & Family,

The first time my son Nick and I met you was the summer of 2001 when we came to our first of many Air Attack camps.During that first camp we were hooked by the Man, Mentor,Coach,
and Legend that is Greg Barton.
I have been a coach for more than 40 years.
I am proud to say that I was able to steal from the Man, My Mentor,Coach and the Legend
that was and IS Greg Barton. I use the term IS because my current and future athletes are and will learn and grow...
