Gregory Thomas Eckstein MD age 78, passed away October 12, 2015 in Clermont, Florida where he has resided since 2003. He received his medical degree from Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine in 1962. He interned at Milwaukee County General Hospital from 1962-63. He was a Captain in the United States Army from 1963-1965. After an honorable discharge, he did his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, from 1965-68. Following his residency he practiced medicine in McHenry, Illinois, from 1968 to 1996. He was much loved by his patients for his caring and compassionate manner. He moved to Florida in 1996 from McHenry as the Medical Director of Humana Military Healthcare Services in Winter Park. He retired from that position in 2002 and moved to Clermont. He and his wife Sandi traveled extensively in Europe for 20 years, especially enjoying tours in Great Britain and a trip to Israel, which was a spiritual milestone. His hobby was genealogy whereby he explored his and his wife’s ancestry. He also loved military history and was an extensive reader. He was a quiet, gentle man whose faith in God directed his life. His faith and unflappable nature made him an excellent physician.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra, and two sons, Gregory Thomas Eckstein, Jr. of Apopka, and Michael Eckstein of McHenry, Illinois. He has two grandsons in McHenry, Bennett and Reese Eckstein.
