Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Bucksport Obituary

Gregory Tyler Gray Gregory Tyler Gray died unexpectedly, but peacefully, on May 19, 2017 at his home in Brooklin. He was 63 years old. Greg was born on November 17, 1953 to the late Sheldon and Jane Gray in Oceanside, New York. He grew up in Baldwin, New York and was a graduate of Baldwin High School. He attended the University of Maine Portland/Gorham. He initially settled in the Augusta area, then eventually moved to Brooklin where he had summered as a boy. On May 25, 2002, he married Nancy Ann Norwood Gray at Flye Point in Brooklin, Maine. They met through their daughters, who were close friends, at the Common Ground Fair in Unity, Maine. Greg was a tinkerer both through his profession in information technologies and his hobbies including woodwork, sail boats, and yard work with his tractor. He was a father, a husband, a brother, a son, a craftsman, a captain, a music lover, a storyteller, a friend, and a faithful Christian. Family was the most important thing in his life paired with his religious beliefs; the two complemented one another, strengthening his love for God and his family. He participated in multiple volunteering opportunities in every community he lived in, including being an active member in the Winterport Lions Club for many years along with his wife Nancy. Greg especially enjoyed a game of cards with his family after an evening meal or captaining his ship on a bright sunny day with his family crew. Everyone who knew him felt the warmth and joy in every hug he gave. Greg was a loving, kind, gentle, and patient soul who was a great support to all of those in his life. He is survived by his wife Nancy Gray, (their dog Lucas), his daughters Meaghan Allen (son-in-law Brandon Allen), Elizabeth Gray, and Gretchen Lescord and his son Bryan Lescord (partner Tarsha Astbury), his brothers William Gray, wife Catherine, and Timothy Gray, wife Angela. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephew. While Greg did not have grandchildren, he is survived by his grand dogs whom he loved and enjoyed Kida Allen and Winnifred Lescord. The family wants to extend their appreciation to all of the recent thoughts and prayers from Greg's many well-wishers and a special thanks to the local volunteer fire service EMTs for their prompt and professional response as well as to the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and family friends who have offered generous support. The family would like to finish by sharing one of Greg's favorite quotes: "For the truth is that I already know as much about my fate as I need to know. The day will come when I will die. So the only matter of consequence before me is what I will do with my allotted time. I can remain on shore, paralyzed with fear, or I can raise my sails and dip and soar in the breeze." – Richard Bode "First You Have to Row a Little Boat" In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the WHCF Harbor of Hope Radio Station 88.5 (whcffm.com).

Not sure what to say?

I never knew Greg, when he grew up, but he and his brothers and I used to hang out every summer..they were good times..So sorry for the loss....I'll never forget my summers in Maine

We got to know Greg during our many vacations spent in Allen Cove Cottage. We always enjoyed his company - he made us Brits feel very welcome. He will be a great miss to his family and anyone who knew him. Our thoughts are with Nancy and the family.

I was shocked to hear about Greg's death. I always enjoyed interacting with him even when it meant my computer was fried. We shared a love of boats and would often talk about sailing and boat work. My thoughts and prayers are with Greg's family. Greg was good people. I will miss him.

My thoughts and payers goes out to his family.

I'm so sorry to Greg's family for their loss. Greg has been a great coworker and resource from our days as MDOT Info support to OIT. Greg will be missed he was a good person and a coworker I considered a friend.

I've known Greg for over 10 years as he was MaineDOT Region 4 OIT expert.
He was always glad to help you with any problem you might have with a computer and was very frequently rushed with requests to fix a problem when we walked through the door. He was very friendly and easy to talk to and he always had a story to tell. The latest one was the man from Florida who came to Maine to buy a sail boat and asked the seller if there where rocks in the ocean.
We both laughed. Greg was a very...

So sorry for you loss. I worked with Greg for several years and liked him very much.
I am glad to know that he is with Jesus now and has not left this world as a lost soul.
God Bless you all in your time of separation and celebration of Greg's life.

So very sorry for your loss. I am so happy that Greg had a relationship with our Lord. Prayers for friends and family.

Dearest Gret and family,

I only ever briefly met Greg, but I know from the way you spoke about him that he was a wonderful person who cared deeply about his family. I am thankful for the time he had and the support he gave to my beautiful friend Gretchen whenever she needed him.
May his memory give you strength in this tough time.
