Explorer of Wrecks

Not everyone would get up at 4:30 in the morning to look at wrecks, but Gregory E. Rodriguez did just that. The wrecks, as it happened, were shipwrecks. He would head out to Brooklyn or Long Island, shrug into scuba diving gear and, with others, explore long- sunken ships. This was wreck diving, and he adored it. He even kept a framed map in his office of where the wrecks were.

The diving made his wife, Elizabeth Soudant, a little nervous. He used to have to call her when he got to Brooklyn, then after the first dive, after the second dive, and when he was leaving. Of course, that meant she had to stay home, chained to the phone. After a while, she calmed down. He had to call only when he got there and when he was leaving.

Mr. Rodriguez, 31, an assistant vice president for information security at the eSpeed division of Cantor Fitzgerald, lived with his wife in White Plains. He always brought a smile to her face with his wit and good humor, she said.

Last Labor Day weekend, they went to Seattle, and Mr. Rodriguez went scuba diving with Ms. Soudant's brother-in-law. Afterward, Mr. Rodriguez said it was his best dive. He didn't see any wrecks, but he saw some wolf eels — fierce-looking things that resembled old men — and they fascinated him. Her brother-in-law intends to go to the spot where they dived, she said, and put a plaque with Mr. Rodriguez's name on it beneath the water.

Not sure what to say?

3.10.15. Years later, for some reason I'm thinking of Greg Rodriguez. I was the recruiter who placed Greg at Cantor. He was 1 of my first 'placements' in NYC and I got to know him fairly well on a social level. As many have commented, he was lively, funny, action-oriented, and super smart. We're roughly the same age, and I felt a special bond with him because we were both fairly young in our careers. G: I miss u my man and think about you often. The smile on your picture is pretty much...

I think about you at least once a week.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. You will never be forgotten you will be loved and missed vary much

You will never be forgotten you will be loved also missed thoughts and prayers go out to the family

It has taken me seven years to find the words to say how much I miss Greg's presence on this planet. Greg and I were in high school together and he was my dance partner for our production of "Grease". It was a very short number, and our portion of dancing together lasted all of 16 bars of music. I have to tell you, though, he made me laugh every time we danced together, in every rehearsal and every performance.

I have a handful of other memories of Greg, in band, and hanging out...

Happy Birthday!!!

As I cross-stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.

In memory....
