Not sure what to say?

A few years ago my wife and I went out to Iowa State to visit our daughter in school. Being the dedicated hockey person Greg taught me to be we had to attend an Iowa State hockey game. In between the second and third period the announcer came over the arena PA system to congratulate the ISU hockey coach for winning the Greg Stathis Award as the Division III Hockey Coach of the Year. The surprising announcement brought a tear to my eye but a gigantic smile to my face.

Coach,

Thanks for teaching us about gut, determination and commitment. All his players, whether they Eagles, Yellow Jackets or Firebirds, will always have a sense of perseverance that we can pass onto others because of you.

Thanks for being our friend.
Keith

My Deepest sympathy goes to Greg’s loved ones.

Buddah,
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Thanks for being our coach both on and off the ice. Know that the love of the game lives on within all your players. Rest in peace.

I was so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. We had a great time with Budda on and off the ice at Manhattan College and St Peter's. I can still see him shuffling around the rink in the middle of the night in NJ. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and I know he will be missed by all.

Greg, Mr. Stathis, Coach, "Buddha", touched all of us with his passion for his family, friends and "our sport". He led everyone he met to victory in one way or another and will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
In his famous words..Hockey Here!!!

I was fortunate to have grown up next door to the Stathis family. I am happy that Gregory grew up to be such a wonderful man and great hockey coach. I have wonderful childhood memories of the Reno Avenue gang. My sympathies and love go out to John, his dad, and George his brother. Love to all - Linda Coleman

I feel lucky to have spent many hours driving with Greg ("Budda" as we knew him) to and from our Manhattan College games. He was a great coach and friend and taught me not only about hockey but about life.

He and his brother George led us to our hockey Mecca in 1985 and for that memory and for his friendship I am eternally grateful.

To his family and loved ones, please accept my deepest sympathy.

Everyone is in our prayers. We are so sorry that we are out of town and cannot personally share our sympathy with you.
