Gregory "Greg" D. Tomko passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2025, ten days after celebrating his 90th birthday. Born in South Dakota to Michael and Bertha Tomko, Greg lived a life defined by quiet strength, deep love, and devotion to family and friends.
Greg grew up in San Francisco, spending summers in South Dakota, where he loved wide-open spaces, ranch life, and horseback riding and also on the Russian River we he found lasting friendships and adventures. Known for his humor, loyalty, and warmth, he built lifelong connections wherever he went.
Greg graduated in1953 from Archbishop Riordan High School's first full 4-year graduating class and continued his education at Hartnell College and Fresno State before serving honorably in the United States Army. A lifelong San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, his enthusiasm for sports became a cherished family tradition.
Retiring in 1995 from State Compensation Insurance Fund, is where he met Patricia "Pat" Ann Tomko with whom he shared 62 years of marriage before her passing in July 2024. His devotion to her was unwavering. His story speaks volumes about the kind of person he was: someone who didn't just speak of devotion, but lived it every day for over six decades.
Loving father to Michelle (Darrell) Boots, Gregg (Jennifer) Tomko, and Lisa (Paul) Pozzi; proud grandfather to Kendall Boots, Elise Tomko, Lena Tomko, and Ryan Pozzi; and great-grandfather to Lennox Boots-Barker.
Greg was deeply proud of his adult granddaughters and cherished the time he spent with them, taking joy in seeing the women they had become. He also took great joy in his grandson's sporting events, making every effort to be present.
He is also survived by loving in-laws: Jude Mion, Mickey and Ruby Quinn, Linda and Gary Pate, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. His kindness, steadiness, and humor will be remembered always.
Greg will be deeply missed and forever remembered. The family takes comfort knowing he is now reunited with his beloved Pat-together again, at peace.
