Not sure what to say?

I remember a time when I was first on the department and Greg and I went to a fire station for training. On the way back, he stopped at a business along Glendale Ave. I stayed in the car. Suddenly, a car came careening through the parking lot and scraped along the entire driver's side! I heard the driver exclaiming, "The brakes! The brakes! I have no brakes!!" I told Greg. Somewhat discussed but smiling, he looked at the car and said, "Did the steering wheel stop working too?"

I met Greg Victor while stationed at Travis AFB, California, in 1969. We occupied adjacent rooms in the dormitory. We resumed our friendship after I returned from an overseas assignment in 1972 when stationed at Luke AFB, outside of Phoenix. Greg was always positive about his life. Over the years Greg and the times we shared came to memory often. Glad to have known Greg Victor.

Greg was a dedicated and unparalleled Fire Marshal. Before he opened the Arena and Stadium - two fantastic venues that he and his team should be given high praise for handling - he opened the Glendale Civic Center. Back in1999, it was the first venue of its kind for Glendale. He endured unbelievable drama and political foolishness to open that building. His knowledge, grace, and cool confidence were amazing. The Civic Center was the precursor to opening the Arena and Stadium - all three of...

Greg was loyal friend and a dependable, hardworking Glendale employee. He always made the effort to make a team of the Fire Marshal's office and the Building Safety Department-- helping to make all of us one of the best code teams in the nation. The city could not have built the Arrowhead Mall, stadium or the arena without his expert assistance. I will never forget his frequent visits at the end of a long day to make sure we were both on the same page on code issues or just to vent on the...

To the Victor and GFD families, we are sorry for your loss.

Teri:

Greg and I met in the 1980's when he represented the AZ fire code committee at the Uniform Fire Code hearings. I was on the UFC code committee, and I can tell you that Greg was a major force in fighting for - and winning - important code changes that today's code enforcers take for granted. They don't know the giant whose shoulders they now stand on, but I do.

Greg took what he was given and made it work. As in one of the premier Fire Prevention divisions in the state of AZ. He also new how to have some fun. Thinking of all of the Victor family.

Very sorry to hear of Greg's passing. He was a very talented Fire Marshal and an asset to the community.

With profound sadness, I just learned of Greg's death. My prayers are with Teri, Erik, Jim and Bill. Greg led the charge during code hearings. He would gladly be the front man for all our efforts at making the fire code the best it could be. His guidance and breadth of knowledge were unsurpassed. He was highly respected in the field and I'm proud to have known him.
